Having watched the development of the new Northfield Leisure Centre it hardly seems possible that it was such a struggle to convince the powers that be in the City Council that a new pool should be built in the heart of Northfield, where it belonged. Councillor Randal Brew spent many hours in meetings discussing why Northfield needed to retain this well loved facility.
Now as you travel towards Northfield shopping centre you can see the state of the art building which will be opening in the next three to four months. The developers have done well to keep the building works ahead of schedule and Randal and Councillor Debbie Clancy were delighted to be the first visitors to see the new facility.
The Centre will feature a 25 metre swimming pool, a teacher pool, a 70 station gym and a community room/studio space.
Birmingham Community Leisure Trust has overseen the new Centre and will manage it once it opens its doors. There is a full plan in place ready to open the building which, he has been told, will include all brand new equipment. Details of the programme on offer have yet to be confirmed but in addition to the normal swim and gym sessions, it is hoped a wide range of fitness classes as well as children’s party play activities and birthday parties will be catered for.
